Paul began his career with Lucas Engineering and Systems developing Artificial Intelligence systems for Computer Aided Design, machine fault diagnosis and statistical analysis. During his time with Lucas, projects he managed won Department of Trade and Industry awards for Innovation. He then moved to Hewlett-Packard Research Laboratories in Bristol. During 10 years with the company, Paul managed projects to perform interactive manufacturing planning, visualize groundwater pollution, develop cryptographic algorithms and electronic commerce. Once again, projects he has been involved with have won recognition such as the European Bangemann award for community uses of the Internet and the Financial Times “Website of the Year” award.

Paul moved to AXA Sun Life in June 2001 and is currently Head of Operational Risk Management for the company. This includes responsibility for Business Security, Business Continuity, Data Protection, Fraud prevention and the Operational Risk Management function. AXA is currently rolling-out a re-designed risk management framework, to include better integration with COSO-based enterprise risk management and capital allocation processes.

Paul is a keen amateur singer and actor, and a lifelong fan of Tranmere Rovers Football Club.

Jörg Hashagen has been working with KPMG since 1985. His expertise is focused on developing and implementing Financial Risk Management frameworks and concepts in business sectors such as Investment Banking, Insurance, Asset Management, Corporate Treasury, and Public Debt Management, as well as the transformation of the new capital requirements directive (Basel II) in the EU. A further field of concentration is the impact of the Basel II Accord on the non-financial sector.

He has specialized in financial services for over 15 years with particular emphasis on banks, asset management, and corporate treasuries and has carried out a variety of large scale advisory assignments and specialized audit support in the exotic derivatives and risk management areas.

Jörg Hashagen is a member of IFRI (International Financial Risk Institute, Geneva).

Greg Hawes has 23 years of credit card and consumer risk management experience. He joined HSBC in 1983 and has held key positions based in London, Hong Kong, Sydney and California. He spent his early career in card operations, quality assurance and product development roles and in 1995, became responsible for the reporting and planning of HSBC's global cards business. In 2002, he took responsibility for improving the profitability and risk management assessment infrastructure for HSBC's cards and consumer banking operations in Asia. He is currently responsible for the coordination and development of fraud detection and analysis solutions across HSBC globally. Greg is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

Michael Imeson is Contributing Editor of The Banker, part of the Financial Times Group and the premier magazine for the world’s investment, retail and commercial banking sectors. Among his responsibilities is writing the monthly “Reg Rage” column on financial services regulation.

Based in the UK, he also writes for and edits corporate publications for organisations such as Bank of Scotland, ING, Lloyds TSB, the Institute of Financial Services and Allen & Overy.

In the 1990s he was the Founder and Managing Director of London publishing agency Financial & Business Publications, which published staff and customer magazines for Barclays, NatWest, Abbey, Egg, Portman Building Society, the Chartered Institute of Bankers, and the City of London Police.

Before that he was an Editor for Maxwell International Contract Publishing (1987-92); a general news reporter for the London Daily News (1986-87); a news reporter for The Times (1984-86); and Editor of Export Times (1980-84).

Michael studied at the London School of Economics (for an MPhil in History) and the University of Bradford (BSc History and Literature).

John Mould has nearly 20 years experience in finance, accounting and operations. He joined New Star in September 2005 from Morgan Stanley International. At Morgan Stanley he was responsible for the oversight of European operational risk, having previously been an executive director in Finance and Operations where he was responsible for variety of functions.

Allan Russell, Senior Vice President of Strategy, was selected in 2007 by SAS CEO Jim Goodnight to be a SAS Fellow, researching and reporting on emerging trends in the software industry. A company veteran for more than a quarter century, Russell contributes to the long-term growth of SAS by working with technology innovators among our customers and in the industry.
Russell's research currently focuses on the uses of BI in a "process-centric" world and examines areas such as business process management, business activity monitoring, SAS workflow tools and integration between SAS and process platforms.
Russell is also one of the principal authors of Information Revolution: Using the Information Evolution Model to Grow your Business, published in 2006. The book describes how organizations mature in their uses of information and presents a model that enables organizations to evaluate their use of information objectively, providing a framework to manage and use data as a corporate asset and compete in today's global arena.
Russell joined SAS in 1980 to help build SAS' nascent European operation, where he played a critical role in establishing SAS' presence in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Asia Pacific. As Senior Vice President of Strategy with SAS International, he worked closely with development teams in SAS' world headquarters in Cary, NC (US) to ensure that SAS software meets and anticipates the needs of SAS' international customers. He also directed European software development projects, gaining extensive knowledge of the business applications of SAS from talking, and listening to, SAS customers.
Over the years, in addition to being a high-tech thought leader, Russell has been principal author of SAS' intelligence platform, an open and scalable architecture that allows for rapid development of end-to-end intelligence systems.

Alastair Sim, who was appointed Director of Strategy and Marketing in 1999, is responsible for all aspects of strategy and marketing in the UK and Ireland. He also leads the SAS Global Marketing Programme for Risk Management, and is a key member of the Global Marketing Council. Sim’s approach to business focuses on providing the best possible value to customers, which has resulted in a strategy that has moved SAS from being a tools provider to a provider of applications that help organisations innovate and accelerate their own success. He has also boosted revenue growth and awareness of SAS.

Sim’s customer-driven approach is a result of his considerable experience at SAS, where he has worked closely with customers in roles ranging from Customer Services Manager to Technical Support Manager.
 Alistair SmithAlistair Smith

Alistair Smith is the Chief Risk Officer at British Energy, a FTSE 100 company, which generates about 20% of the UK’s electricity.

Alistair began his career at Lloyds Bank and spent 21 years there in a variety of management roles. He managed a number of large change programmes following the Lloyds TSB merger and then, as Enterprise Risk Director, led a project to establish a new risk management framework.

Prior to joining British Energy, Alistair spent 2 years as Head of Risk Management for Liverpool Victoria, the UK’s largest Friendly Society, establishing a new risk management framework there.

Alistair joined British Energy to take up the newly created CRO role in December 2006.

He is a graduate of the University of Birmingham, has an MBA from the Open University, and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
